Believe it or not, the holiday season is right around the corner. This time of year always tends to creep up on us, but for the restaurant owner, letting it slip by is not an option. Now is the time to prepare for the multitude of diners coming your way? Here’s how you can get ready for the fast approaching season:

Evaluate last year
Think about what happened last holiday season. What worked? What didn’t? Apply what you learned to this year’s action plan.

Prepare your staff
Make sure your staff is equipped for the expected flux of traffic and trained accordingly. If you don’t think your current staff will be enough, hire now for any gaps you see. Consider temporary help. With college students coming home this time of year looking for seasonal work the extra help shouldn’t be too hard to come by.

Check your supplies
Review your inventory of tableware and equipment. Are you prepped for incidentals? If your restaurant caters to large parties or events, make sure you have enough supplies on hand to keep them running smoothly and stress-free.

Introduce special items
This is a great time of year to have fun with your menu. Your restaurant can create specialty menu items and pass along the holiday spirit to draw in busy customers (i.e: your own pumpkin spice latte). Also consider including local, winter produce, to appeal to the locavore and add some extra flavor to the menu.

Offer gift cards
With gift cards you are providing your diners the chance to share the gift of a good meal to their friends and family. The demand for gift cards are high. According to the NRA, six in ten Americans prefer them to their more traditional counterparts.
