We offer a fun and interactive "Cooking Merit Badge" Workshop which covers all the bases of most cooking merit badge obligations. Looking for a fun and educational outing for your Boy Scout troop to learn a life skill?

We’ve designed a series of cooking programs for the Boy Scouts. During these hands-on cooking sessions your Boy Scouts have the opportunity to experience a variety of cooking methods as they create delicious healthy meals. They will work with our pro chefs to learn how to measure and mix ingredients, use a variety of kitchen tools, follow recipes, learn the basics of etiquette, nutrition, food safety and more!  to measure, mix and prepare delicious (and healthy) meals and snacks – all while they complete steps toward earning their Merit Cooking Badge.

 

Boy Scout Theme: Cooking Merit Badge (Workshop & Cooking)

Boy Scout Menu: Backpacking Menu; Breakfast Lunch & Menu as per the Merit Badge Requirement.

Minimum Guest Required: 12

Time: 5 Hours

Cost: $75.00 Per Scout

 

Event Description: For the new Cooking merit badge, which became Eagle-required on Jan. 1, 2014, Boy Scouts will prepare meals using the MyPlate food guide, understand and explain food allergies, and learn about cooking food indoors.

This is important: there are two big, separate changes to Cooking merit badge as you know it. The first is that Cooking merit badge became Eagle-required beginning Jan. 1, 2014. The second is the new requirements, found below, which become mandatory for Scouts who begin the merit badge on or after Jan. 1, 2015.

 

The Cooking merit badge introduces principles of cooking that can be used both at home or in the outdoors. Scouts who earn this badge will learn about food safety, nutritional guidelines, meal planning, and methods of food preparation, and will review the variety of culinary (or cooking) careers available.

 

Cooking merit badges to become Eagle-required- Some of the activities that will be covered during the workshop include:

 

  • Kitchen Safety & Food Handling Examples of food groups & recommended daily serving sizes from each group as recommended using the new food pyramid

 

  • Recipe preparation using proper techniques and procedures

 

  • Recipe nutrition and camping modifications

 

  • Meal Planning – Planning a full meal including nutritional information and grocery lists

 

  • Pricing & estimation of total meal costs Optional extension suggestions to meet further requirements.

 

 

What to Expect: Great cooking is about more than recipes—it's about techniques. In our classes your kids will work together with other students in a fun, hands-on environment led by our professional chef instructors.

Active participation—your child will be standing, cooking and working for most of the class

Please have students wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and have long hair tied back
